Jamie FoxxThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been gearing up in recent weeks, and with a brilliant first instalment in the new trilogy, we’ve got high expectations for the sequel.

We heard last month that Shailene Woodley is circling the role of Mary Jane Watson for the second film, and at the same time, we also heard talk of Electro being the new villain, and it looks like the early rumours were right.

Variety are now reporting that Jamie Foxx is in early talks to take the role of Electro.

“Electro is the alter ego of Max Dillon, an enemy of Spider-Man who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man #9” in February 1964.”

In the post-credit sequence we saw back in the summer, Rhys Ifans’ Dr. Curt Connors is approached in the shadows by an unidentified figure, with lightning featuring prominently in the short scene, which has led to rumours in the months since surrounding Electro.

The excellent leading duo of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are set to reprise their roles as Peter Park/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy, with Marc Webb returning to the helm once more.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) will be credited for the screenplay, along with Jeff Pinker (Fringe, Lost), based on an original draft by James Vanderbilt, who penned the first film.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release in 3D on 2nd May, 2014, which really can’t come fast enough. I absolutely loved what Webb, Garfield, and Stone all brought to the table with the first film, and with Woodley and Foxx now circling the sequel, things are looking very, very awesome. More as we get it.
