Jackson-Nicoll-and-Johnny-Knoxville-in-Jackass-Presents:-Bad-GrandpaA few weeks back, Paramount surprised everyone by announcing that Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa would be arriving in cinemas this October.

The film, which had been rumoured but previously unconfirmed, took the studio’s release slot for Paranormal Activity 5, and all signs suggest it’s going to be a huge winner for them, as an altogether different kind of low-budget, potentially high-reward movie.

With less than three months to go before it hits cinemas, the first trailer and images from the movie surfaced last night, giving us a hilarious first look at the upcoming comedy.

86 year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companions, his 8 year-old Grandson Billy in “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa”. This October, the signature Jackass character Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) and Billy (Jackson Nicoll) will take movie audiences along for the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on camera.

Along the way Irving will introduce the young and impressionable Billy to people, places and situations that give new meaning to the term childrearing. The duo will encounter male strippers, disgruntled child beauty pageant contestants (and their equally disgruntled mothers), funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens.

Real people in unreal situations, making for one really messed up comedy.

Johnny Knoxville of course reprises his role as the octogenarian, Irving Zisman, a fan-favourite amongst Jackass viewers. And joining him will be pint-sized Jackson Nicoll (Fun Size) as the young Billy.

Jeff Tremaine is naturally behind the camera once more, having helmed the first three Jackass movies, and a number of the franchise’s other projects. And he’s directing from a script he co-wrote with Knoxville and Spike Jonze.

The prospect of a feature-length movie based on the Bad Grandpa character is intriguing, hilarious, and somewhat unexpected. Of the many sketches from the show, the Bad Grandpa character isn’t necessarily the first one that comes to mind when thinking of solo features. But this first trailer is undeniably brilliant, and certainly bodes well for the full feature in a few months’ time.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa will be hitting US and UK cinemas on October 25th.
