Spider-Man and Whiplash star J.K. Simmons is the second major addition to the cast of Kong: Skull Island.

He joins Tom Hiddleston (Avengers Assemble) in an as yet unrevealed role, and both casting decisions mark a very good start to the movie which is set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein penned the screenplay before Flight’s John Gatins came in to do a rewrite a little earlier this year.

The movie is a prequel of sorts to the classic King Kong tale as it will explore his home island. A vague description released when the movie was announced read, “Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

It was revealed over the weekend that Skull Island has been retitled Kong: Skull Island, and that it’s been given a new release date. Originally set for November 4th, 2016, it now reaches us on March 10th, 2017.

One possible explanation for the move is the fact that it will now avoid Marvel’s Doctor Strange. That’s smart, and it now has two clear weeks before the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In other casting news, it’s being reported by Variety that the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie is looking to cast its final major role and that Lucy Boynton (Miss Potter), Gabriella Wilde (Endless Love), Jenna Thiam, Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner), and Alexandra Dowling (The Musketeers) are all being considered.

It’s believed that whoever wins the role will play the love interest to Brenton Thwaites, the actor who plays the British soldier who teams up with Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg are directing, Javier Bardem plays the villain, and the movie is set to be released on July 7th, 2017.
