Following on the dark immensity and surrealistic satire that made the original Hunger Games feature so memorable, it takes a brave director to step into the helm and continue on this fine franchise – and Francis Lawrence has done so in a triumphant fashion, as Catching Fire is arguably even more accomplished that the initial offering.
Lawrence discusses with us his excitement at appeasing an already established – and expectant audience – and tells us how he went about remaining faithful to the style and tone (or ‘stone’, which we’ve now accidentally coined), while the director – who is also filming the final two instalments of The Hunger Games franchise, Mockingjay parts 1 and 2 – tells us how that’s coming along.
