Even before the scandal which surrounded one of the most controversial movies in recent memory, The Interview did not have a confirmed release date in the UK. Since then of course, the movie – which stars James Franco and Seth Rogen – has so far earned over $31 million from its VOD release alone.

It’s still not clear whether it was the North Koreans, a group of Chinese hackers, or a disgruntled ex-employee who leaked thousands of Sony Pictures emails online, but the reason for that was blamed on The Interview. Things took a serious turn of course when its release was cancelled following threats of violence.

As we mentioned, The Interview did spread throughout America via VOD on Christmas Eve and in a number of select cinemas the following day. Sony will still lose money, but the movie did great business in the small number of screenings, sold well online, and is, uh, one of 2014’s most pirated releases (not such good news).

To recoup some of their losses, Sony are now gearing up for an international release, and The Interview will receive a wide UK debut on February 6th. That date means it will go up against Selma and the Shaun the Sheep Movie. It remains to be seen how Sony will go about promoting it, but they won’t want a repeat of what happened across the pond, that’s for sure. There’s still no news on a wide release in North America.

A new red-band trailer for The Interview was recently released, and you can check that out by clicking here.
