Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut in Man of Tai Chi is likely to be one of the best action films of next year.
Securing funding at the end of last year, the film is currently shooting in Hong Kong, featuring both English and Mandarin, and Reeves has promised that it will compromise of a solid forty minutes’ worth of fight scenes – pretty damn awesome.
An interesting proof-of-concept video has made its way online, via Twitch, revealing Reeves on set, and looking at how he intends to shoot the film’s kung fu sequences: namely, he’ll be using the Bot & Dolly’s Iris, an automated camera system that allows you to set the paths which the camera will then robotically follow.
It sounds – and looks here – like a very impressive setup, and gives us yet another reason to look forward to Reeves’ debut behind the camera.
Reeves will star in the film himself, playing the role of the villain, which sounds brilliant in my books. His next big film, 47 Ronin, is set to be released on 8th February, 2013, starring alongside Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai), the leader of the forty-seven samurai. It should be immense, and like Man of Tai Chi, is promising to be one of the best action films of next year.
