I,-Frankenstein-PosterComing from the same production company as the very successful Underworld franchise, I, Frankenstein is set to be one of the first big blockbusters of the new year.

The fantasy-actioner was originally set to be released earlier this year, but was pushed back twice to land in cinemas this coming January. And with just a few months separating us from its release, Lionsgate has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming blockbuster.

Set in a dystopic present where vigilant gargoyles and ferocious demons rage in a battle for ultimate power, Victor Frankenstein’s creation Adam (Aaron Eckhart) finds himself caught in the middle as both sides race to discover the secret to his immortality.

Aaron Eckhart takes centre stage as the titular Adam Frankenstein, with a promising supporting cast led by Yvonne Strahovski, Bill Nighy, Miranda Otto, Socratis Otto, Jai Courtney, Kevin Grevioux, Mahesh Jadu, Caitlin Stasey, and Aden Young.

Stuart Beattie (30 Days of Night, Collateral) is making his sophomore feature behind the camera, directing from his own script, based on a story he wrote with Kevin Grevioux, who wrote the original Darkstorm graphic novel of the same name.

I, Frankenstein is set to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D in the US and UK on January 24th, 2014. Given the success of the Underworld franchise, it will be interesting to see if I, Frankenstein will launch a similar franchise for Lionsgate in the coming years.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
