Hummingbird-Quad-PosterKnown as Hummingbird on our shores, and Redemption across the Atlantic, the latest movie led by Jason Statham is just a few weeks from heading into cinemas, arriving at the end of this month.

The latest trailer we saw back in the spring suggested that the film will see Statham taking on a slightly darker role. And now a new clip has been released via MSN, giving us a look at Statham’s character, Joey, haunted by his past as he tries to drown his sorrows.

Living on the streets after going on the run from a military court-martial, Joey (Statham) is a damaged ex-special forces soldier trapped in London’s criminal underworld. But when opportunity enables him to assume another man’s identity, he is transformed into an avenging angel.

Statham is joined by Vicky McClure (This Is England, Broadchurch), Agata Buzek (The Reverse), Siobhan Hewlett (Irina Palm), and Benedict Wong (Prometheus).

The Oscar-nominated Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises) is making his feature directorial debut, and is directing from his own script.

Hummingbird (or Redemption) will be released in the US and UK on June 28th. That release date sees it opening against the apocalyptic comedy This Is The End and the animated sequel Despicable Me 2 on our shores, which will make for some tough competition. But given the differing target audiences, here’s to hoping they all play well at the box office.
