With Hugh Jackman confirming that the next Wolverine movie – which is set to be released in 2017 – will be his last, fans can’t help but wonder what the future has in store for the character. Will Fox put him on the shelf for a few years or are they going to recast the fan-favourite mutant? It’s going to be a while before we find out, but as Jackman prepares to hang up his claws for good, it turns out that he has a great suggestion for his replacement.

“I haven’t really given it a lot of thought,” the actor confesses in the interview above. “I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me.’ [Laughs] I’ve still got one more to do, though I’m sure they’re already talking about it and there’s some actor out there who they’ve said, ‘Shh, keep it quiet, we want you next!’ He’s younger than me for sure, so I think Tom Hardy could be great.”

It’s hard to argue with that, and if anything, Hardy would actually be closer to the comic book version of Wolverine than Jackman is! As of right now, it appears as if Fox are hoping that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool or Channing Tatum’s Gambit will serve as possible replacements for Wolverine as the new faces of the X-Men franchise, but that really remains to be seen.

Hardy certainly showed off Wolverine levels of intensity in Legend. Read our review here.
