How-I-Live-Now-Quad-PosterKevin Macdonald’s How I Live Now marks the director’s return behind the camera for his first narrative film since 2011’s The Eagle, having released the acclaimed Marley and Life in a Day in the past two years.

The adaptation sees Saoirse take the lead as the young Daisy, set during a fictional third World War in the 21st century. And with its UK release date close on the horizon, eOne have released the first trailer and poster online, via Sugarscape.

Daisy (Saoirse Ronan), a teenage New Yorker, is sent to England one summer to stay with cousins she has never met before. Immersed in a dreamy pastoral idyll she soon falls madly in love with her cousin Eddie (George Mackay). Their summer is blown apart by the sudden outbreak of a 21st century World War when, along with Eddie’s younger siblings Isaac (Tom Holland) and Piper (Harley Bird), they are forced to fend for themselves. Eventually separated, Daisy is forced on a terrifying journey to be reunited with the boy she loves. Eddie is never far from Daisy’s mind but as her journey to find him gets more desperate, the idea of what she may or may not find begins to consume and haunt her.

Saoirse Ronan is joined on screen by George MacKay, Harley Bird, Tom Holland, Anna Chancellor, Natasha Jones, and Corey Johnson.

Macdonald is directing from a script penned by Tony Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Southcliffe), Jeremy Brock (The Last King of Scotland, The Eagle), and Penelope Skinner (Fresh Meat), adapting the original novel, How I Live Now, by Meg Rosoff.

How I Live Now is set to be released in the UK on 4th October. No word yet on a US release date, but Magnolia have the rights Stateside, and will hopefully be putting the film into cinemas in the fall/autumn as well.
