Is it safe to go back in the water? If you’re Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the answer is a resounding yes! As you may remember us telling you a little earlier this year, the versatile wrestler turned actor is set to star in a big screen reboot of popular TV series Baywatch.

Now, word comes that the movie has found a director in the form of Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon. Baywatch has been in various stages of development since 2004, but Paramount has struggled to find the right tone and direction. More than a dozen writers have taken a crack at it, and the latest draft was penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is planning on going for a tone similar to the Jump Street movies, taking what was supposed to be a serious show and transforming it into an action comedy. They believe Seth Green is the man to help them achieve that goal.

Production is expected to begin in 2016, and the story centres on a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.

Spinoff Baywatch Nights was a very unconventional police TV show, and more of those can be found by clicking here. Hopefully this movie doesn’t end up too similar to that, eh?
