Gotham has a great cast of actors and characters, but now another new addition has been made to the series which follows a young Detective Jim Gordon years before Bruce Wayne dons the cape and cowl as Batman.

Morena Baccarin has a huge fan following after appearing in Joss Whedon’s beloved (and short-lived) sci-fi series Firefly and received acclaim for her role in Homeland. In Gotham, she will play comic book character Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a faithful ally to Batman who helps him and his allies again and again over the years.

Of course, we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves there as Bruce is still just a child in this series!

In Gotham, Baccarin’s Thompson is a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane.

In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters, so expect to see her play a major role!

In fact, it has been confirmed that the actress will have a recurring role in season one with an upgrade to being a regular cast member in season two providing the show makes it that far (which looks very likely).
