To celebrate the release of director Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years out on Digital Download, DVD and a Blu-ray NOW, we were taken on our very own Magical Mystery Tour to Liverpool to experience first hand the birth places and most famous locations where the original super group refined their craft to become the biggest band on planet earth.

We started off at Liverpool’s famous Albert Dock where The Beatles Story is situated. The museum (or exhibition) is a mecca for all things Beatles where music lovers can go to learn everything and anything to do with the band. It’s the world’s largest permanent exhibition focusing solely on The Beatles and is a must visit for any fans of the band or for those who simply love music.

Our visit to The Beatles Story was brief but we got a whistle stop tour through but really, it’s something which you need to devote a good few hours to if not more. Along with your admission fee you get a headset which will guide you through recreations of The Cavern Club, Hamburg, Abbey Road and even a yellow submarine!

Our next stop our our magical mystery tour….. was the magical mystery tour! As we boarded our branded bus and were given a wonderful journey through the city and outskirts of Liverpool where we got to see the birthplaces / childhood homes of all four Beatles, as well as Penny Lane and Strawberry Field.

Finally it was onto The Cavern Club, the location where The Beatles played over 200 times in a three year period. The history of the club itself is fascinating as in 1973 it closed to make way for a car park and used as a ventilation shaft. 11 years later in 1984 it was found that the area was never needed so an architect decided to excavate the site and renovate it allowing the famous club to be reopened and to this day performances now happen from midday every day until at least midnight.

Our day really was fascinating. To find out and see with our own eyes the history of the worlds first super group and understand a bit more about where they came from and experience these locations first hand was a real treat.

Thanks so much to both The Beatles Story and The Cavern Club for looking after us and giving us a truly unforgettable experience.
