Best-known to audiences for his BAFTA-winning role as Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock, Pride gives Andrew Scott a chance to play a character who is a little more “low-key”. Though he may not get to prance around the Welsh Valleys as much as on-screen partner Dominic West, his turn as bookshop owner Gethin is as heartbreaking as it is uplifting.

We sat down with Scott to hear what it was like meeting the real-life members of LGSM (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners), what he hopes the film will teach younger generations, and how he thinks the group would have tackled the Ice Bucket Challenge in today’s “Age of the Selfie”. He may also have thrown in a few dance moves for good measure.

Pride is released in UK cinemas on Friday. Check out our review here.
