Hercules is set to smash its way into cinemas later this summer, and with wrestler turned actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the title role, you just know that we’re in for potentially one of 2014’s best blockbusters.

Yesterday saw the release of the first official stills from Brett Ratner’s upcoming take on the mythological character, and we now have the first poster and trailer for the movie which sees Dwayne Johnson taking on the titular role in the movie which is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

The movie promises to deliver a far more serious take on Hercules, and should help wash away the bad taste left earlier this year by The Legend of Hercules, which starred Twilight’s Kellan Lutz.

What do you think about this first look?

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend. Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

Also starring, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson and Tobias Santelmann, Hercules is set to hit theaters July 25th, 2014.
