Now there’s a headline we’re willing to bet you didn’t think you would ever read! It was last year that Helen Mirren first expressed an interest in starring in one of the Fast and Furious movies, praising Vin Diesel (“He’s a great guy, smart – I love him”) and expressing a desire to have the opportunity to show off her driving skills in a future instalment of the franchise.

Months later, Diesel would respond to that by saying only, “She is on the list. Be careful what you wish for, Helen.” Well, she’s been given her wish, as Mirren revealed in an interview with Elle Magazine that she is indeed going to be making an appearance in Fast and Furious 8.

“I like to be serious. Of course, having said that I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that’s for the fun of it. So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies. I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see.” So, it sounds like she’ll be having some fun!

Just how significant a role that is going to end up being remains to be seen, but Mirren joins an impressive cast which also includes Charlize Theron as the lead villain. With a release date of April 14th, 2017 set, expect more details to be revealed over the coming months.
