It was revealed in October that Fox Searchlight had commissioned a sequel, with its principal cast – including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton – all said to be eager to reprise their respective roles and original screenwriter Ol Parker tapped to write a treatment.

Well, it seems Parker’s treatment has not only impressed studio bosses at Fox Searchlight, but also heavyweight Hollywood talent in the form of Mirren and Firth. It is not currently known what their roles will be.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which opened earlier this year to high praise and more-than-impressive box office takings ($134M worldwide), centers on a group of British retirees who, while on a luxurious trip to India, find themselves completely enraptured by the local culture.
