Little bit shocked by this news folks but literally just seen this pop up on my RSS feed. Warner Bros. have just announced the news that Sherlock Holmes director, Guy Richie has been offered the chance to direct the sequel to the 2006 Zack Snyder directed movie, 300 which has the title, Xerxes. This news broke on Vulture and I’m a little saddened by it. I think Richie is a fine director but what Snyder did with 300 was simply fantastic and I loved everything about that movie.

Vulture does provide some answers as to why Snyder isn’t going to direct and it pretty much all stems from his involvement with the Superman movie. According to industry insiders, Superman is suffering ‘major third-act problems’ and the movie has to hit cinemas by 2013 or Warner Bros. will lose the rights to the entire Superman franchise. Reason enough to keep your man focused on one job in hand but I’m still a little disappointed.

They go on to discuss the reasons could be that both Watchmen and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole have underperformed both surely they wouldn’t be handing the man the Superman movie if that was the case.

I guess we’ll wait and see but in the meantime, let me know what you think in the comments section below.
