Well if this doesn’t cause your heartstrings to swell with manipulated warmth then you might as well be a stuffed toy. The first trailer for Simon Curtis’ Finding Neverland-esque biopic of the life of Winnie the Pooh creator A. A. Milne is washed in sunlight and smiles, cherubic children and the wonders of rebuilding hope in the darkest time.

Focusing on the relationship of Domhnall Gleeson as Milne with his young son, the titular Christopher Robin (as played by Will Tilston and Alex Lawther), the trailer sets its scene on the unsteady ground of post-war Britain. Making much of the enormous success of Milne’s stories the trailer hints at trouble at home, as well as the erosive effect of a world turned upside-down with war.

But never fear – there are Pooh-sticks galore, a stuffed Piglet and all the gang are here. Gleeson looks every inch the dapper leading man with Margot Robbie sidelined a little here, swirling around in a ball gown and comforting the man in the middle of it all. Let’s hope there’s more to her role in the finished film.

Joining Gleeson, Tilston, Lawther and Robbie is Kelly MacDonald whose illuminated voice we hear throughout this first look. The film was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Simon Vaughan. We can’t wait.

The film is out in UK cinemas on the 29th of September.
