If the impending US election isn’t enough to drive you to tears then this new trailer for Gifted, starring ol’ Cap Am himself, will sort you out.

Keen to shake off the stars and stripes Chris Evans has something far more down to Earth here. No less a hero than his Marvel Super Soldier, Evans stars as an uncle taking care of his niece following the death of her mother. She turns out to be gifted, and a battle begins to bring her up as a normal child, or as a prodigy.

This is Marc Webb’s first film since The Amazing Spider-Man double act, and finds him back on familiar (500) Days of Summer ground. McKenna Grace is the young genius, and looks be capable of ripping the heart out of you with just a look. Lindsay Duncan is full on Cruella De Vil as the Grandmother and the wonderful Octavia Spencer also appears, which is reason enough to see it.

Take a look at the trailer, but you’ll cry.
