Pacific Rim Quad Poster 220x150 Giant Robots vs. Monsters in New TV Spot and Featurette for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific RimGuillermo del Toro’s hugely anticipated Pacific Rim is less than a month from hitting the big screen, and the early buzz surrounding the movie has it pegged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.

Warner Bros. have been doing a brilliant job of promoting the mammoth monster movie, most recently launching a great new TV spot this week. And arriving swiftly on its feet, we’ve now got a new featurette to share, via Apple, along with an electrifying new TV spot.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, and Idris Elba take the lead atop a terrific cast, starring alongside Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.

Del Toro returns behind the camera for the first time since 2008’s Hellboy II, directing from a script he co-wrote with Travis Beacham.

Pacific Rim will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 12th in the US and UK. The advance box office is already open in the UK, and you can be sure that tickets will be selling fast in the next few weeks.
