Gerard-Butler-in-talks-to-lead-Point-Break-RemakeComing off the back of last year’s surprise success story, Olympus Has Fallen, Gerard Butler is now in final negotiations to jointly lead the upcoming remake of the 1991 cult classic, Point Break.

The project has been in the works for a few years now, and is now eyeing a summer shoot with Butler close to closing talks, THR reports.

Butler will play Bodhi, an expert extreme-sports athlete who seeks nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves. He saves Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent, and brings him into the fold of international criminals.

Ericson Core, cinematographer on The Fast and the Furious and Daredevil, will be making his sophomore feature as a director, after making his debut back in 2006 with another sports movie, Invincible.

Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Total Recall) is responsible for the script, and the casting would see him reunite with Butler, having written F. Gary Gray’s 2009 hit, Law Abiding Citizen, in which Butler starred opposite Jamie Foxx.

The part of Johnny Utah is still to be cast, and if the film is expecting to shoot this summer, then no doubt we’ll have more news on that front in the near future.

Before shooting Point Break, Butler will first make Lionsgate’s epic fantasy, Gods of Egypt, set to start shooting in March. And he’ll be ending the year shooting the Olympus Has Fallen sequel, London is Falling, all of which should keep him busy for the next twelve months.

No word yet on when we could expect the film to hit cinemas, but if shooting does get underway in the summer as planned, then a Summer 2015 could well be on the cards, even if it is already due to be one of the busiest blockbuster seasons of all time.
