Rather sad news this morning as the news of veteran, writer, director and producer Garry Marshall has died at the age of 81 after complications from pneumonia following a stroke.

Marshall is probably best known creating the hit TV show Harry Days and directing Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. He also wrote TV series’ The Odd Couple & Mork and Mindy. He became the king of the com with his directing credits also including Beeches with Bette Midler, Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. In 1999 he reunited with Roberts and Richard Gere in Runaway Bride and brought Anne Hathaway into the mainstream with The Princess Diaries.

More recently Marshall has worked on the occasion movies bringing a whole host of a-listers to the screen including Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve and only this year the release of Mother’s Day.

His 50 years Hollywood career has seen him work with some of the best in the business. The casts that he was able to bring together for these films shows just how much love there is in Hollywood for Marshall who will be greatly missed.

RIP Garry Marshall.
