Following that massive cliffhanger about the fate of Jon Snow, we were forced to wait a little longer than normal for Game of Thrones to return. Now, it sounds like there will be more than a year until the show is back for its seventh season and it’s all because “Winter is here.”

Talking during a recent podcast appearance, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss weighed in on why they’re having to wait on the weather in order to start production.

“We don’t have an air date yet,” they confirmed when asked for an update. “We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here’ — and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

That’s pretty worrying, but even worse is the fact that it has already been confirmed that the final two seasons will be shorter than previous years. In fact, we may only have fifteen episodes left to look forward to over the next two years, as the duo has previously stated that they’ve always envisioned Game of Thrones as running four around 75 hours in total.

We’ll just have to wait and see, but chances are that we’ll be waiting longer than normal…
