Game of Thrones - Two Swords

Considering the fact that the season four premiere of Game of Thrones was the most watched episode on HBO since The Sopranos finale, it perhaps shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the series will return for a fifth and sixth season! However, it’s still a relief to have the news confirmed, and means that we’ll still be enjoying the show come 2016.

In a press release today, Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, released the following statement: “Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

Game of Thrones is based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, and is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal.

The season four cast includes Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Charles Dance, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Alfie Allen, Jerome Flynn, Conleth Hill, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Stephen Dillane, Natalie Dormer, Iain Glen, Kristofer Hivju, Sibel Kekilli, Rose Leslie, Rory McCann, Michael McElhatton, Iwan Rheon and Carice van Houten.

The lifespan of the series is unknown, and as the series continues to catch up to the events of the books, the pressure is on Martin to get those finished before that happens. He recently hinted that a movie could be an appropriate way to wrap the series up. What do you guys think?
