Game of Thrones fans wish George R.R. Martin would hurry up and finish writing Winds of Winter already, but he now has another distraction in the form of a new TV show that he’s developing alongside HBO.

However, don’t panic just yet as it’s not expected to eat up a lot of GRRM’s time, meaning he can continue penning the follow-up to 2011’s A Dance With Dragons. Fans are already worried after it was recently revealed that the Game of Thrones TV series will actually finish before the Song of Ice and Fire books end.

This new show is titled Captain Cosmos, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will focus on “a young science fiction writer living in 1949 at the dawn of the age of TV. The writer spends his time penning stories no one else would dare to write.” The project is currently in the early stages of development, and the pilot is being written by Michael Cassutt, one of the writers and executive producers of SyFy’s Z popular Nation.

This definitely sounds like an interesting concept, but it could still be at least another year or two away.

Game of Thrones returns to television next Sunday, and you can read our review of the premiere right here.
