Long pegged as one of the biggest Oscar contenders of the year, David Ayer’s Fury has been poised for greatness since the word go.

The writer-director was coming off strong praise for his work on End of Watch, and when he started assembling the cast, things started to look very good, very quickly.

Sony recently shared the first footage from the film at E3, and though everyone was impressed by what they saw, it was naturally lacking a consistent tone as it was just a featurettte. Now we have a better idea of what we’ve got to look forward to, and it certainly cements the hope for Sony that they’ll be heading to the Oscars here early next year.

April, 1945. A battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Wardaddy and his men face odds in their attempts to strike at Nazi Germany.

Brad Pitt leads the cast as the hardened sergeant, Wardaddy, starring alongside Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, Michael Peña, Jason Isaacs, and Scott Eastwood.

Ayer is once more directing from his own script.

Fury will be released in the UK on 24th October, with its US release date following in Oscar primetime on November 14th.

Here’s the trailer and poster, released today. Both look pretty great.
