Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II – Saw IV), and remaking the 1980 horror film of the same name, Mother’s Day is due to get a limited US theatrical release at the start of May, before heading to DVD/Blu-Ray and VoD a few days later.

Rebecca De Mornay (Risky Business) stars as an evil matriarch, supported by the likes of Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood), Jaime King (Sin City), Frank Grillo (The Grey), Patrick Flueger (The 4400), and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men).

The first official US trailer has gone online, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, and the plot synopsis looks a little like this:

“After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers go home to hide out… only to discover that their Mother lost their house in a foreclosure. The new owners and their party guests become the depraved brothers’ unwitting hostages. Their sadistic Mother soon arrives and brilliantly takes control of the situation, ratcheting up the terror. As the hostages struggle desperately to survive the harrowing torture, they realize that there is nothing a Mother won’t do to protect her children.”

Here in the UK, we’ve already seen the film released in cinemas back in July last year, and it’s since come to DVD and Blu-Ray last October – so if you’re reading this in the UK and like the look of this new trailer, you’ll already be able to pick the film up online or in your nearest HMV (if the horror section is respectable).

Mother’s Day will be released in the US on 4th May in limited theatres (it’s going up against The Avengers over there – probably not the best idea, but hey), and will then be widely available via DVD, Blu-Ray, and Video on Demand from 8th May.
