None of the recent Young Adult adaptations have really taken off like The Hunger Games, both from a commercial and critical standpoint. As a result, only time will tell if The 5th Wave will do well, but the first domestic trailer for the movie certainly impresses.

In The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope – if she can only trust him.

Directed by J Blakeson (who helmed the underrated British thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed), the impressive cast also includes Maika Monroe, Liev Schreiber, Ron Livingston, and Nick Robinson. The 5th Wave is set to be released next January, not a particularly great slot for blockbusters, but one where it could definitely take advantage of a quiet month.

As you’ll see from the trailer below, The 5th Wave includes many of the familiar staples from these movies, but there’s enough epic destruction in there to potentially draw in older viewers too. Also below is the first poster for the movie which was released last week.
