Debuting at Sundance at the start of the year, Katie Aselton’s survival horror/thriller Black Rock sees her once more on both sides of the camera, starring alongside Kate Bosworth (21) and Lake Bell (How to Make it in America).

Written by Mark Duplass, and executive produced by both Mark and Jay Duplass, the film is set to be released in the US in May 2013, and now Yahoo Movies have debuted the first trailer, giving us a great first look at what promises to be a tense thriller.

“In an attempt to iron out a rift between her two childhood friends, Sarah (Kate Bosworth) plots a camping trip to a remote island where the trio grew up, hoping that memories of the good old days will be just the thing to bring them back together. As the women begin to reconnect, the burgeoning harmony is shattered by the arrival of three maniacal ex-soldiers, and soon the girls’ weekend retreat turns into a terrifying fight for their lives.

Working from a screenplay by indie stalwart Mark Duplass, director Katie Aselton’s survival-horror tale is a hugely exciting thrill-ride, buoyed by the genuine strength of the female characters. The naturalism of the dialogue and performances highlights the mumblecore origins of Aselton and Duplass, building a sense of history between the three women that makes their ultimate descent into terror all the more nailbiting.”

Black Rock is set for release in the US on 17th May, 2013. No word yet on a UK release date, but Metrodome acquired the rights for our shores back at Cannes, so keep your fingers crossed for a release around the same time. For now, here’s the first trailer to give you a taste of what to expect.
