Oblivion-PosterLed by Tom Cruise, Oblivion promises to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2013, hitting hard in April next year.

The blockbuster sees Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy) return behind the camera for his second feature. And with the film’s release just over four months away, the first poster for the film has debuted over at IGN.

The first trailer is expected to hit this coming Sunday, so be sure to check back for that when it does.

“On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.”

Cruise is joined by a terrific supporting cast, headed up by Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Zoë Bell.

Kosinki is directing from a script co-written by himself, William Monahan (The Departed), Karl Gajdusek (Last Resort), and Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII), based on an original graphic novel by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.

And to top it all off, the increasingly popular M83 have been set to score the film, so we can expect some immense music to go alongside what promises to be an epic scope for Kosinski’s return.

Oblivion is set for release in the UK and IMAX theatres in the US on 12th April, 2013, before opening wide in the US a week later. For now, here’s the rather awesome first poster, which you can click through to enlarge. And be sure to come back on Sunday for the first trailer.
