This year has already seen the release of one Hercules film, and after that bombed, fans of the mythological character are now hoping that director Brett Ratner and star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be able to do him justice in their take on the character which is set to be released later this summer.
Talking to USA Today, Johnson acknowledged the fact that The Legend of Hercules, which starred Twilight’s Kellan Lutz in the title role, may have caused some initial “confusion,” but is now confident that moviegoers will accept his “passion-driven” project which is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and picks up with Hercules after he has endured his 12 Labours.
As a result, this movie promises to deliver a far more serious take on Hercules, with Johnson adding: “Green screen and effects can be fantastic. But when you have real men, real sweat and even real blood, it’s very gratifying. You feel the substance.” The first trailer will be release for Hercules this week!
Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend. Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.
Also starring, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson and Tobias Santelmann, Hercules is set to hit theaters July 25th, 2014.
