Ain’t Them Bodies Saints has been one of the most anticipated films I’ve been looking forward to since we heard back in the spring that it would be led by Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck, and Ben Foster, by far three of my favourite actors of all time.
We heard earlier tonight that the film will be making its world premiere at Sundance in January with the film festival’s line-up announcement, and now the first official image of Mara and Affleck has debuted online.
“The tale of an outlaw who escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas hills to reunite with his wife and the daughter he has never met.”
Nate Parker and Keith Carradine complete the cast nicely, with David Lowery directing from his own script.
Lowery took the Grand Jury Award for his short film, Pioneers, at SXSW last year, and developed the script for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints last January at the Sundance Writers Lab.
The film will be competing in the US Dramatic Competition out in Park City, Utah, and will be facing some very promising competition from the likes of James Ponsoldt’s The Spectacular Now, John Krokidas’ Kill Your Darlings, and Lynn Shelton’s Touchy Feely. The line-up this year is spectacular from just this first announcement, with plenty more still to come, and it looks like Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is going to be a strong contender in just under two months’ time.
Ain’t Them Bodies Saints will debut at Sundance in January, and I will definitely be keeping my fingers tightly crossed that it will head across the Atlantic for Sundance London come April. For now, here’s the first look at Mara and Affleck in the leads.
