It’s not set to be released until next November, but the first footage from Disney Animation’s Moana has surfaced thanks to a brief new featurette shown on The Disney Channel this week. The studio has been giving Pixar a run for their money in recent years thanks to critical and commercial hits like Big Hero 6, Wreck-It Ralph, and of course, Frozen.

What’s unique about Moana though is the fact that it’s set to introduce a brand new Disney princess. That will be the titular character, played by 14 year old actress Auli’i Cravalho, a native of Oahu, Hawaii. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson meanwhile will be taking on the role of the once powerful demi-god named Maui, and his antics can be glimpsed in this video.

“In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island,” reads the synopsis. “During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”

Moana looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and while we’re probably still a good few months away from the trailer, the movie is definitely looking good so far based on what we see here.
