The first official images of Supergirl have been released by Warner Bros. Television, DC Entertainment, and CBS. The series – which may or may not be set in the same world as Arrow and The Flash – is set to premiere this Autumn. The costume was designed by Academy Award winner Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland).
“In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today,” says the costumer designer (who also created The Arrow and The Flash’s suits).
It was recently revealed that Dean Cain and Helen Slater (a former Superman and Supergirl) have been cast in two secret roles. Other additions include Mehcad Brooks (Desperate Housewives) as James Olsen, Laura Benanti (Nashville) as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, and David Harewood (Homeland) as Hank Henshaw.
Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) focuses on Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Melissa Benoist will play Kara, who after arriving on Earth was taken in by a foster family, the Danvers, who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers.
