The Strain

We’ve seen a lot of cryptic teasers and a handful of stills from upcoming FX series The Strain, but this teaser trailer features our first look at actual footage from the show!

Based on a trilogy of novels (which were later turned into a Dark Horse comic book series) from Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan, a small screen adaptation of The Strain is set to debut on FX this July. The first season will consist of 13 episodes, and Del toro will direct and co-write the pilot alongside Hogan. Former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is set to run the series and executive produce.

The footage below certainly plays up the horror elements of the series, giving us an idea of what to expect from del Toro’s trademark monster creations. Otherwise, it doesn’t really reveal an awful lot in terms of story, but does spotlight many of the impressive cast members.

“The Strain” is a high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Starring Corey Stoll, John Hurt, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin and Doug Jones, The Strain will debut on FX in July. A UK air date has not yet been announced.
