After earning acclaim with both his 2013 Evil Dead remake and this year’s sleeper hit Don’t Breathe, director Fede Alvarez may have found his next project in the form of the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Sony Pictures are according to Variety courting the director to helm the second installment in the series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web. However, rather than making The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, the second and third books by Stieg Larsson, the studio has decided to skip them in favour of Spider’s Web, which was written by David Lagercrantz.

The English-language remake, directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, opened in 2011 and grossed over $232million from a $90million budget. Neither Craig or Mara are set to return for the new film.
