Paul-Walker-and-Vin-Diesel-on-set-of-Fast-and-Furious-7Vin Diesel is nothing if not generous, and he’s constantly keeping his fans up to date with what he’s up to through Facebook. With production now getting underway on Fast and Furious 7, that clearly isn’t changing, with Diesel sharing the first image from the set.

Fast and Furious 6 has taken north of 0m. around the world this year, and Diesel himself announced back in the spring that Universal have set the sequel’s release for July 11th next summer.

Unfortunately, that timetable meant that Justin Lin decided to opt out of the director’s chair, wanting to focus on post-production for Fast and Furious 6, rather than simultaneously juggling post- on six and pre- on seven, and jeopardise the quality of either or both.

In his place, the studio went in a very interesting direction, hiring horror favourite James Wan, who has had two very big hits this year with The Conjuring and this past weekend’s release, Insidious: Chapter 2.

Paul Walker is naturally going to be taking centre stage alongside Diesel, as seen in this first photo from the set below. And much of the franchise’s cast is expected to return, including Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese Gibson, with Jason Statham set to play the lead antagonist, and Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey, and Nathalie Emmanuel boarding the cast for the seventh instalment.

Wan is directing from a script penned by Chris Morgan, who’s written every film in the series from Tokyo Drift onwards, with Diesel producing alongside Neal H. Moritz.

Fast and Furious 7 is set to be released in the US on July 11th, 2014, with its UK release date currently slated for 25th July, but hopefully that window will be brought forward by two weeks. For now, here’s the first look at Diesel and Walker from the set.
