Despite the fact that there’s arguably at least a dozen X-Men characters better suited for their own TV shows than Legion, the fact that Fargo creator Noah Hawley is writing and developing the adaptation alongside producer Bryan Singer makes it easy to get excited about. While the titular role has yet to be cast, we do now know who the female lead is.

That will be Fargo season two star Rachel Keller. She became a firm fan-favourite as Simone Gerhardt in the FX series (the same network which is developing Legion), and while there are no firm character details as of yet, Deadline mentions that, “There has been chatter about them possibly being tied to human touch, drawing parallels to such X-Men universe characters as Rogue and Spyke.” Seeing the former on the small screen would be fun!

All we know for sure though is that her character is a scrappy, optimistic woman in her 20s.

Legion introduces the story of David Haller, based on the Marvel comics character Legion, the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier. Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Fox are clearly expanding the X-Men Universe in a major way over the next few years as they’re also developing a Hellfire Club TV series and a movie focusing on the New Mutants.
