Despite the almost unforgivable title of the post there is something very sensible about this new trailer for Thomas Vinterburg’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd.
Placing Carey Mulligan in the centre of a triangle of suitors is a fine start, the actress has an innate ability to get an audience on her side, and will her the very best fortune. Love, though, is a harsh mistress. Something that she, in her role as the wonderfully named Bathsheba Everdene, clearly isn’t.
The trailer has suitors one, two and three all lined up and weaving their own tangled web around her, and there is no doubting Vinterburg’s eye for a beautiful shot. If you’ve not seen his Oscar-nominated The Hunt it’s something you need to do right now.
Tom Sturridge, Michael Sheen and Matthias Schoenaerts are the three stooges, Mulligan looks on top form here.
