2015’s Fantastic Four reboot was a critical and commercial flop and fans have been hoping ever since then that the rights might return to Marvel Studios so Marvel’s First Family could finally return home. Well, Fox is continuing to look for ways to revive the franchise and that’s going to include a Doctor Doom movie from Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley.

He’s reportedly penning the screenplay with an eye to direct and it was at the end of a panel for Legion that he dropped the bombshell by teasing his next project: “Two words,” he said. “Doctor. Doom.” The classic Fantastic Four villain has now appeared in three movies but has never been done justice so this is the chance to finally make that right.

Whether or not a Doctor Doom movie will lead to a big screen return for the Fantastic Four remains to be seen but the studio isn’t interested in returning to them yet so they’re looking at other ways to retain the rights. It’s even rumoured that Seth Grahame-Smith is working on a spinoff starring Franklin Richards, the son of  Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Girl.

It sounds like it’s still early days for Doctor Doom so it could be a while before we hear anything concrete about the Fantastic Four spinoff. If there’s anyone capable of doing the iconic villain justice, it’s Hawley so here’s hoping that the fourth time is the charm!
