ExtractedExtracted played at SXSW 2012 but isn’t getting its UK release until September this year, quite some delay by any standard. The new trailer which is over at Yahoo looks to have some interesting elements to it, in its tale of a man (Sash Roiz) who develops the technology to not only access your own memories, but also the memories of others. He gets drawn into the memories of a suspected killer in order to  get to the truth but finds himself stuck.

This looks to be playing on Inception’s ideas of reality, layers and perception, although it seems to lack the style or clarity of Nolan’s rightly lauded blockbuster. The cast list reads like a “who?” rather than a who’s who, but that’s not necessarily a reason to write it off. Big name stars are no guarantee of quality or success, though the extremely limited released schedule for Extracted suggests that either it is no good, or the studio/distributor don’t quite know what to do with it. Those Inception-style horns during the trailer perhaps don’t help – if you are going to try to compare yourself to something, pick a softer target.

Anyway, here’s the trailer. Writer/Director Nir Paniry is making his feature length debut with this. Make your own mind up as to what you think of it.
