Well known for his scripts on the likes of 28 Days Later…, Never Let Me Go, and most recently Dredd, Alex Garland is making his presence felt next year in the director’s chair, with Ex Machina marking his debut at the helm.

Reuniting with one of his Dredd stars, Domhnall Gleeson, he’s brought together an impressive leading cast for the occasion, bringing Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander in to complete the leading trio. And now the stellar first trailer has landed.

Caleb, a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl.

Gleeson and Isaac have of course gone on to land two of the leading roles in the new Star Wars: Episode VII line-up, so it should be nice to see the chemistry they share on screen at the start of next year before they close out the year next December with what is sure to be one of the biggest blockbuster events in recent memory.

Ex Machina is set to be released in the UK on January 23rd.
