Jane-Levy-in-Evil-DeadFede Alvarez’s Evil Dead will soon be making its world premiere out at SXSW next month, and thankfully it’s not long before its anticipated arrival on the big screen in theatres, either.

The film is of course a remake of the classic Sam Raimi horror film, and with Raimi himself on board as producer, we’ve got a lot to look forward to here.

The latest green-band trailer still promised to live up to the expectations of previous trailers we’ve seen. And though Evil Dead has had to make a few cuts to bring down its original NC-17 rating to get the desired R-rating, we’ll hopefully be treated to the extended cut on Blu-ray and DVD a little further down the line. With little more than a month to go before it arrives, we’ve got a new image to share, courtesy of Empire, giving us a look at our young lead, Jane Levy.

“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

Levy takes the lead, recasting the original male role for a female. And starring alongside her is Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore, with Raimi and original lead Bruce Campbell both producing.

Alvarez makes his feature directorial debut, directing from a script he co-wrote with past collaborator Rodo Sayagues Mendez, with Diablo Cody hired for a revision last year.

Evil Dead will be released in the US on 5th April, a week earlier than previously expected. And its UK release date is set for 19th April. This looks like it should be awesome. Here’s the latest bloody image to get the adrenaline rising.
