Expect this one to be a big player during awards season at the end of the year. Universal has dropped two trailers for their upcoming film, Everest, based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, and they look very impressive.

The movie boasts a terrific ensemble cast, topped by Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes Robin Wright, Emily Watson, Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

2 Guns’ Baltasar Kormákur directs from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator) and Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours). Beaufoy’s Oscar-nominated work writing 127 Hours, another film based on a true story, certainly looks to have put him in good stead for penning this adventure thriller.

Universal is expected to campaign hard for this towards the end of the year, alongside their anticipated Steve Jobs film, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin.

Everest will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 25th September in the UK. It arrives in the States a week earlier on 18th September.

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, EVEREST documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.
