Ant-Man looks set to be one of Marvel’s loosest adaptations to date, with Hank Pym (a founding member of The Avengers in the comic books) now a superhero from the 1960s who gave up the mantle when his wife Janet – better known as The Wasp – was killed apparently in the line of duty on a mission for S.H.I.E.L.D.

In a move which isn’t too dissimilar to the source material, con-man turned hero Scott Lang will become Pym’s protégé as the two team up to pull off a heist which will help them save the world.

Evangeline Lilly is set to play Hope Van Dyne, the daughter of Hank and Janet and a character who has only appeared in a handful of comic books where we saw her as part of one of Marvel’s many alternate futures. In those, she became a villain known as the Red Queen in order to avenger the death of her parents.

However, Marvel Studios have a noticeable lack of female superheroes in their movies and wasting this opportunity to introduce a new version of The Wasp would be baffling to say the least. Though there have been claims that she won’t have any superheroing duties in Ant-Man, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see the movie (which is now directed by Peyton Reed instead of Edgar Wright) end with Hope suiting up as The Wasp!

Adding to that speculation are the following images posted by the Lost actress to her Instagram account yesterday. As you can see, she looks very much like The Wasp, and speculation is now running rampant that Lilly will indeed be playing the beloved character when Ant-Man is released on July 17th, 2015.

Joss Whedon actually wanted to include the character in Avengers Assemble but couldn’t because Edgar Wright was still developing Ant-Man at the time. For that reason, don’t be shocked if Rudd’s Ant-Man and Lilly’s Wasp appear in the third instalment of that franchise. For now though, we’ll have to wait and see…
