They may have lost Edgar Wright, but Marvel Studios are moving full steam ahead with Ant-Man under the watchful eyes of new writer Adam McKay (Anchorman) and director Peyton Reed (Yes Man).

Following their panel on Saturday night at Comic-Con, Marvel officially announced which characters Lost star Evangeline Lilly and House of Cards’ Corey Stoll will be playing in the movie.

Stoll will play Darren Cross, but in a major change to his rather forgettable comic book counterpart, he will be a villainous version of Ant-Man in this movie. That name was once taken by original Ant-Man Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas here), but Marvel have decided to use the persona for the movie’s main villain.

In another surprise twist, Evangeline Lilly will play Hope Pym, the daughter of Hank and Janet Van Dyne. This is a major change to the comics as Jan is The Wasp in the present day Marvel Universe, but this movie will have the original Ant-Man make his debut in the 1960s instead, with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) taking over decades later when Pym hires him to pull off a heist in the nefarious Darren Cross’ company he stole from him.

Hope is featured in an alternate Marvel Universe referred to as the MC2 where she became a villain known as The Red Queen following the death of her mother and father. With any luck, the movie won’t take this route as those as Lilly would be perfect as The Wasp, especially in a future Avengers movie.

“We’ve been fans of Evangeline for years, and couldn’t be more pleased that she’s agreed to join us on Ant-Man’s journey to the big screen,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We look forward to audiences learning more about her character when she joins forces with Hank Pym and Scott Lang in 2015.”

“Corey brings depth to every role he plays,” continued Feige. “As a major part of the Ant-Man ensemble, we all wanted an actor who could be both cunning and sympathetic, and help create a character as dynamic as Marvel’s best antagonists.” Ant-Man is set to be released on July 17th, 2015.
