Ender's-Game-Final-PosterLast night, Summit launched a trailer preview for their upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, Ender’s Game. The film looks like the franchise-starter to beat this year, following in the footsteps of last year’s mammoth hit, The Hunger Games.

As promised, the full-length trailer has launched today, via Apple, giving us an even better look at what will shortly be heading to the multiplex towards the end of the year.

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Asa Butterfield takes the titular lead as the young Ender, and he’s joined by a stellar cast, led by Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy Pinchak, Brandon Soo Hoo, Nonso Anozie, and Viola Davis.

Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is directing from his own script, adapting the original novel by Orson Scott Card. Card’s long-running series began back in the 1980s, and has since spawned sequels running into two digits, adding that much more potential for Ender’s Game to be a franchise-starter for Summit, who will be looking to set one up after the recent conclusion of The Twilight Saga.

Ender’s Game will be released on 25th October in the UK, with its US release date arriving a little later on November 1st.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
