Hugh Jackman first played Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, though he wasn’t actually Bryan Singer’s first choice. However, the Australian actor has gone on to completely own the role over the past fifteen years, appearing in every single one of the X-Men movies and even two solo outings (a third is currently in development).

Based on the Instagram post below, it appears as if Jackman’s time as the fan-favourite character is at an end though. Whether he’s referring to James Mangold’s Wolverine movie or X-Men: Apocalypse – in which it’s rumoured he will make a cameo appearance – it definitely appears as if the actor is done with Wolverine.

With Singer introducing a new team of younger mutants in X-Men: Apocalypse and the contracts of stars like Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence coming to an end, perhaps the franchise is about to head in a very different direction with a fresh cast of actors and characters. That could mean that Jackman is no longer needed, and after all these years, he probably doesn’t have too much of an issue with moving on.

Based on what a box office draw he is though, it’s hard to imagine that this was Fox’s idea instead of his.

Either way, we’ll hopefully find out what this intriguing post means sooner rather than later, but at least it’s confirmation that fans will get to enjoy seeing Jackman play Wolverine at least once more in the near future!
