Emilia Clarke didn’t have much luck in the sci-fi genre after taking on the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys, but she’s now going to take another crack at it by heading to a galaxy far, far away in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s upcoming Han Solo standalone movie.

StarWars.com made the news official this evening, but no details about who she will play have been revealed. It obviously won’t be Marvel Comics character Sana Solo as she’s black, so there goes at least one fan theory (though it’s obviously possible that she could still appear in some form). Best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, this is an impressive bit of casting. and Clarke now joins Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover.

Interestingly, the site also mentions that her role will, “round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.” With any luck, we’ll get some more casting news soon, though it does sound like this will be a leading role.

The still untitled Han Solo spinoff is currently set to be released in 2018, and production will begin next year. Do you have any theories about who Clarke could be playing in the movie?
